SF Station Blows It Up

1. Gareth Lloyd of Death of a Party, live on stage @ Popscene, San Francisco, December 22, 2005

Popscene is known for having some of the most interesting bands. So this night I just showed up to see something new and I got Death of a Party. When they took the stage wearing Christmas sweaters and fans began to sing along I thought this could be cool. But after the fist song it was apparent that they were just loud and all the songs sounded very similar. I definitely donít want to sound like I am talking shit, technically the guitar and drums did sound good and the vocals were somewhat enjoyable. I really think that these guys could have something; all they need to do is turn the vocals down and work on the lyrics.

2. Goapele, live on stage @ Mezzanine, San Francisco, December 28, 2005

If you haven't heard of this Oakland R&B diva you've been under a rock for the past few years. Walking up to Mezzanine and seeing a line that spanned a few hundred feet was a pleasure and a good set up was waiting inside. This was the CD release party for her new record "Change it All" on Skyblaze recordings. Just walking through the venue, my head was turned around with all the hotties dancing around. Once she hit the stage it was on, performing some of her old tunes as well as some new tunes like "Love Me Right" that has a rock edge that showed the range of this amazing vocalist. I also must say that I was impressed when I turned my head and saw Prince himself grooving to her tunes.
