SF Station Blows It Up

1. Ratatat @ The Fillmore, San Francisco, September 8, 2008

On Monday night I had the opportunity to photograph and watch Brooklyn-based Ratatat with the rest of the sold out crowd at The Fillmore. A very strange pre-opening band called E*Rock was entertaining for a few seconds then Panther, who I thought was great, brought their own brand of electro rock. But the light definitely shined on Ratatat who started out pretty mellow and built up to some intense visuals and killer beats. They played songs from their new XL recordings release LP3.

2. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club @ Great American Music Hall, San Francisco, September 9, 2008

On a rare night off from the STP tour, BRMC decided to do something special in their home by the bay: a two-night stay at the Great American, with one acoustic night and one electric night. I had the pleasure to enjoy the electric night. With dope lighting as usual and their kick ass guitars, they stomped the place into the ground driving the crowd to move. The new drummer was pretty badass and kept up with Peter and Rob like it was nothing. I am always very impressed with their ability to mix garage rock, blues, folk revival, and neo-psychedelia into their own sound.

3. Martin Luther @ PST 330 Ritch, San Francisco, September 9, 2008

Every Tuesday night Ankh Marketing, Soul Deluxxe Sound and Local 1200 present PST and last Tuesday they had the pleasure of hosting Martin Luther for a short but sweet acoustic set. Martin played songs from his upcoming album that made the girls swoon with soulful vocals and rhythms that made me move my feet. PST is one show you shouldn’t miss because you never know if someone like ML will show up and treat you to some great hip hop and R&B.
