SF Station Blows It Up

1. The Germs @ the Vans Warped Tour, Shoreline, Mountain View, August 15, 2008

For many years the Vans Warped Tour has been a staple in discovering great punk and rock artists and this year was no different with Katy Perry to the Horrorpops. On Friday August 15th, I got to check it all out; it was something to see with a line that wrapped around the venue at 11am just to get in. With bands like Rise Against/Against Me, Gym Class Heroes, Reliant K and many more rocking the main stage and some great seminal punk acts playing on the old school stage it was a great day. I must say though my highlight was at the old school stage with Mike Watt, Pat Smear and Stan Lee hanging together - just to hear them talk was something, but seeing The Germs, The Dickies and Mike Watt play together was the icing on the cake.

2. NAS @ Rock the Bells, Shoreline, Mountain View, August 15 2008

Hip-Hop festivals never happen…well, except for one that has been very successful and has once again graced the Bay. Rock the Bells kicked ass and took names last Saturday night with great performances from Nas, Tribe Called Quest, a reunited Pharcyde and many more. New Orleans rapper Jay Electronica kicked off the day with some great beats and I knew that it was going to be a fun time. I am not sure if any of you have ever seen Redman or Method Man perform, but it is freakin' amazing and I will say they didn’t hold anything back at the Shoreline, from great rhymes to jumping into the crowd and also crowd surfing. The crowd also got a little treat when Qtip did a mini solo set with back up vocals from Mos Def…yeah Mos did back up - how crazy is that?… the crowed definitely got their money's worth from headliners Nas and Tribe who both rocked the stage hard.

3. Two Gallants @ The Independent, San Francisco, August 20, 2008

Wednesday night and Sony threw a little party for special invited guests with some great bands like Two Gallants, Howlin’ Rain, Everest and Big Light. With people having some stiff drinks and great music it was great little party. I will say I was there for the 2Gs and, man, do those boys know how to rock; they played music from all their albums and even treated us to Tyson playing guitar with Adam.
