Love it or hate it, the holiday season has officially begun. And few outdoor activities say the holidays more than a crisp day on an outdoor rink. So, with holiday ice rinks having popped up all over the Bay Area, we put together a short list of places you can lace up those skates in hopes that you’ll be able to partake in a seasonal tradition.


Union Square Ice Rink through January 21
at Union Square in San Francisco
Costs: $18 adults, $13 kids (includes skate rental)

Located in the heart of Union Square in San Francisco, the ice rink is open until January 21st. Open daily from 10am – 11:30pm. 90-minute sessions start at every even hour. Polar Bear Skate on January 1st. The ice rink is also available for private party bookings.



Holiday Ice Rink through January 6
at Embarcadero Plaza, across from the Ferry Building
Costs: $12 Adults, $7 Kids ($5 Skate Rental)

The Embarcadero Center rink is the largest outdoor skating rink in San Francisco. Located at Embarcadero Plaza in San Francisco, the ice rink is opened through January 6th. The rink is open Sunday-Thursday from 10am – 9:30pm and Friday and Saturday from 10am – 11:30pm. 90-minute sessions start at every even hour. Private party booking is also available.


Winter Park through January 6
at Civic Center in San Francisco
Costs: $20 Adults, $5 Kids (includes skate rental)

Winter Park at Civic Center showcases a number of special events on the ice; including themed dance and skate parties… Winter Park is “a central gathering place for Bay Area families to enjoy unique holiday experiences, with the incomparable backdrop of San Francisco’s City Hall.” Phil Ginsburg, General Manager of the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department is “excited to welcome this festive new attraction to provide an inclusive, accessible addition to the cultural landscape at Civic Center.”


Holiday Ice Rink through January 6
at California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park
Costs: $10 for Academy members, $15 for general public with museum admission

Winter brings cooler, shorter days, and again transforms the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park into a wonderland of science and holiday fun. After playing in the museum, play a little out on the ice.

Downtown Ice in San Jose through January 27
at between Fairmont and SJ Museum of Art in San Jose
Costs: $17 Adults, $15 for 10 & under and for members of the military

Located in the heart of Downtown San Jose, the ice rink offers those in the South Bay a chance to skate in the center of the hustle and bustle of downtown San Jose. The rink is open through Feburary 7 – Super Bowl Week. Hours vary, but the rink is open most weekend nights until midnight.


Old Oakland Holiday Ice Rink through January 6
at 806 Washington Street in Oakland
Costs: $13 + $5 for skate rental

An exciting turn for Old Oakland. The historic district has a wonderful attraction.


Napa on Ice through January 6
at 575 3rd Street in Napa
Costs: $14 (includes skate rental)


Winter Lodge through January 6
at 3009 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto
Costs: $12, $5 for skate rental (holiday skate hours end January 6th, skating season ends April 14th

Outdoor picnic tables and fire pits provide a unique setting to skate – a family tradition since 1956.


San Mateo on Ice through January 13

Costs: $16

Santa Clara on Ice through January 6

Costs: $15 Adults, $10 Youth (includes skate rental)
