Monterey International Pop Festival Celebrates 50 Years, Lineup Announcement
Two of California’s largest event producers have joined forces for the historic 50 year anniversary celebration of the now infamous Monterey Int’l Pop Festival. The first festival was held in 1967 and is considered a major defining moment in the Summer of Love. Back when Rock ‘n’ Roll was considered a fad – it was the first time artists such as Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and The Who performed live at a major American festival.
Another Planet and Goldenvoice announced the festival will take place June 16, 17 & 18 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds and will release a lineup this Monday, April 17th.
The original 1967 lineup included:
Buffalo Springfield, Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Simon and Garfunkel, Big Brother & The Holding Company, Canned Heat, Hugh Masekela, Steve Miller Blues Band, The Beach Boys, Booker T & the MG’s, The Burds, Jefferson Airplane, Moby Grape, Otis Redding, Ravi Shankar, The Mamas and the Papas, Dionne Warwick, and The Who, among many others.
