10 Highlights From the SF Beer Week Schedule

SF Beer Week 2015 will celebrate the unique craft brew culture of Northern California alongside some of the world’s most reputable breweries, featuring more than 600 events across the Bay Area from Feb. 6 to Feb. 15.

10 highlights from the schedule:

Friday, Feb. 6: SF Beer Week Opening Gala
Fort Mason Center Herbst Pavilion, San Francisco
Featuring more than 80 breweries from across Northern California, SF Beer Week’s Opening Gala is a nearly overwhelming celebration of craft brew with unlimited tastings. A wide range of new and classic beers and creative flavors showcase regional favorites and upstarts. Local vendors Kung Fu Tacos, Curry Up Now and Rosamunde Sausage Grill will be on site with pallet-pleasing offerings.

Saturday, Feb. 7: Dodge Balls, Drink Beers! RAD League Dodgeball Tournament
Pyramid Alehouse, Berkeley
Berkeley’s Pyramid Alehouse teams up with Recreational Adult Dodgeball League (RAD) for a Saturday afternoon of dodging rubber and drinking beer for a good cause. There will be four warm-up games with prizes before the final round, where the last-person-standing wins brewing classes with seven friends at Pyramid’s Walnut Creak location. A $10 tournament fee and donations will benefit Project Open Hand.

Saturday, Feb. 7: Trumer StrEat Takeover
SoMa StrEat Food Park, San Francisco 
Trumer Pils and the chefs at SoMa StrEat Food Park team up for an evening of live music and creative dishes that use Trumer Pils beer as the special ingredient. Admission is free, but VIP tickets are available for purchase and include unlimited beer pours, a meet-and-greet with the brewers and a commemorative stein.

Sunday, Feb. 8: Craft Beer Mystery Tour
Pyramid Alehouse, Walnut Creek
Six Time All-Star and Oakland A’s pitcher Vida Blue and radio personality Larry Kreuger will be pouring beers at Pyramid Alehouse for a blind tasting celebration. All beer names will be hidden so guests can learn what qualities they like in a beer without being influenced by its identity. Certified craft beer gurus will be standing by to share their knowledge and answer any questions. A suggested donation of $15 benefits Project Open Hand.

Monday, Feb. 9: IPAs, ABV, & Bukowski
Fig & Thistle, San Francisco
“We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war.” Fig & Thistle honors one of America’s finest literary drinkers with an evening of IPA flights paired with a selection of Bukowski’s most savory quotes.

Tuesday, Feb. 10: Oyster & Beer Extravaganza
Magnolia Pub, San Francisco
Magnolia Pub’s 6th annual celebration of oysters and beer will feature its famous Oysterhead Stout, brewed with four bushels of whole Hog Island oysters and paired with a special menu that offers a variety of raw and cooked oysters. Pricing is a la cart.

Thursday, Feb. 12: Hops for Housing – Homebrew Festival
BeatBox, San Francisco
This unique event features more than 30 small batch beers from the local home brewers and breweries in planning. Local food vendors, artists and live music will also be on site. This event benefits the SF Tenants Union, who provide free tenant counseling services to struggling renters.

Thursday, Feb. 12: SF Maritime Beer Fest
Hyde Street Park, San Francisco
The SF Maritime Park Association honors history and hops with an evening of beer tasting, entertainment, and local food vendors at Hyde Street Park. Marvel at historical vessels of the Barbary Coast while sipping on some of the world’s finest craft brews. Tickets include admission to the Eureka Ferry Boat.

Saturday, Feb. 14 & March 3: Brew It Yourself: Beer Making at Home
SF Workshop, San Francisco
SF Workshop hosts the perfect evening for you and your libation loving Valentine with a home brewing class taught by professional craft brewers. This is a two-part class. In the first class, attendees will brew a 50-gallon batch of beer, and by the second they’ll leave with eight bottles of their very own creation. All supplies are provided, but organizers suggest bringing a favorite bottled brew to share with the class for inspiration.

Sunday, Feb. 15: Celebrator Beer News 27th Anniversary Party
Trumer Brauerei, Berkeley
Celebrator Beer News, a magazine devoted to all things craft beer, will celebrate its 27th anniversary for SF Beer Week’s Grand Finale at Berkeley’s Trumer Brauerei. Guests will sip on beers from over 30 breweries while schmoozing with the magazine’s staff and writers, as well as brewers and brewery owners. All proceeds support the California Craft Brewers Association.
