On January 26, director Mike Mills will be on hand at the Roxie Theater to premiere his new SFMOMA curated film, A Mind Forever Voyaging Through Strange Seas of Thought Alone: Silicon Valley Project as part of their Live Projects 3: Project Los Altos along with a screening of his 2011 film Beginners.
Although he shares a name with a certain well known member of R.E.M., Mike Mills, the director, has carved out his own niche as a director and visual artist. In addition to his two theatrical releases Thumbsucker (2005) and Beginners — the latter of which opened the 54th SF International Film Festival — he’s also known for his music video work and documentaries. His new film is a portrayal of children of tech workers in Silicon Valley and their visions for the future, in line with Project Los Altos’ theme of artists exploring the tech-heavy area.
Taking place on the eve of his highly anticipated Live Projects 3 artist talk at SFJAZZ Center, along with Chris Johnson and Kateřina Šedá, expect further screenings of some of his past short films and a discussion with Mills.
