Friday, $5 Meals and Free Movie Night

This Friday night, city residents can enjoy a FREE outdoors movie screening, on McCoppin Square park, at Taraval and 23rd Avenue. “Movies in McCoppin Square,” adds to the Bay Area’s repertoire of popular annual public gatherings with outdoor projection screens like: Film Night in the Park, Dolores Park Movie Night (discontinued in 2011), Duboce Park Movie Night, and Jack London Square’s “Waterfront Flicks.”

Movie goers can also get $5 meals and discounts from nearby merchants, using the coupons at this link.

“Movies in McCoppin Square” first debuted in June 2012, as a one month pilot program. The event attracted hundreds of Parkside neighborhood residents, which ensured continued city support. The family friendly movie night series is scheduled every Friday at 8 pm.

This new seasonal (summer-ish) event was organized by a collaboration of District 4 Supervisor Carmen Chu, the Recreation & Parks Department, and the Ocean Avenue and Parkside merchants associations.

Tonight’s family oriented film is a very funny DreamWorks’ animation, “How to Train Your Dragon.” And next week’s scheduled film will be “The Goonies” on September 28.

Remember to bring a blanket to sit on the lawn, and get there early to find a good spot.
