Chartreuse, Grand Old Fashioned Available on Tap at Grand Cafe

The bar at the Grand Cafe is now offering a few new options on tap for guests.

Along with Bar Manager Kristin Almy’s seasonal cocktail menu, the restaurant is now offering green chartreuse and a “Grand Old Fashioned” on tap. Like Fernet Branca, Chartreuse has become a popular choice as a digestif for many in the industry and food enthusiasts in the Bay Area.

The Green Chartreuse is offered in a 1.25 ounce shot ($5) or with Kronnenbourg 1664 ($8). Grand Cafe is the second bar/restaurant in the United States to offer Chartreuse on tap (Cannon in Seattle also does).

Green Chartreuse, far right

The Grand Old Fashioned is a combination of Pierre Ferrand “1840 Original Formula” Grande Champagne cognac, Green Chartreuse and Angostura Bitters and is offered for $9 a glass.

I got a chance to try both drinks shortly after they were introduced. I really love the old fashioned. I have tried a few around SF and this one is truly unique. I think the Grand Champagne cognac really adds a nice element to the cocktail. The shot of Chartreuse is exactly as it should be – a nice digestif meant to be enjoyed at the end of the evening. Nice additions to the great cocktail menu at the Grand Cafe.

The Grand Cafe is located at 501 Geary Street.
