Preview: Jackhammer Disco with Tiga, Damian Lazarus

Friday, May 4, Public Works presents Jackhammer Disco with a diverse line up headlined by Tiga.

Tiga has a unique background as a DJ/producer, gathering a main source of his inspiration for dance music from his experience with the Indian club scene in the late 80s. He returned to his hometown of Montreal with the sounds of acid house fresh on his mind and helped cultivate the Canadian rave scene by throwing parties and managing DNA Records, a record shop devoted to techno.

In 1998, Tiga started his Turbo Recordings imprint on which he released a diverse selection of dance music ranging from electro to techno, including artists such as Chromeo, Boys Noize, and Azari & III.

Tiga’s productions and remixes lean on the side of electro with added pop hooks and his own vocals. He covers a variety of artists through his remixes with tracks including those from the likes of Telepopmusik, Martini Bros, and Cabaret Voltaire. In 2007, Tiga got his big break with the success of his debut full length, Sexor, which received the Juno Award for Dance Recording of the Year.

Rounding out the bill is Crosstown Rebels’ head honcho, Damian Lazarus, and newcomers, Light Year. Whether or not you saw Lazarus at RebelRave last October, it may be worth it to see the direction in which he is taking his brand of tech-house.

Support will come from a select handful of local DJs, including Honey Soundsystem’s Jason Kendig, As You Like It’s Nolan Haener, and Lights Down Low’s Sleazemore.

Tiga, Damian Lazarus, and Light Year play Public Works on Friday, May 4. Additional info and tickets can be found here.
