Bun Rieu is a popular Vietnamese tomato and crab omelet rice noodle soup. Each family has their own home recipe. Lam’s version ($11 per bowl) uses fresh crab meat and handmade pork meatballs, and the broth takes about 6 hours to complete. There’s a limited supply of servings for this first day (one large pot’s worth of broth), so don’t be late.
This is the 2nd Vietnamese food pop up in the city, following Rice Paper Scissors who started in March 2011. The RPS group is currently traveling in Vietnam all next month, and will be back on March 1, 2012. So in the meantime, perhaps Soup Junkie can fulfill any cravings for homemade Vietnamese grub.
Lam plans to showcase other noodle soups in the future. He has developed his own recipes for pho, wonton noodle soup, tonkotsu ramen, and burnt miso ramen. Check Twitter for updates.
