New German Sports Bar Enters The Richmond

Just in time for Oktoberfest, a new German sports bar named Steins opened this week on Clement street, replacing an unpopular Burmese restaurant.

After popular pub Schnitzelhaus (1996-2009) in SOMA closed, not many expected a resurgence of German pubs in the city. Earlier this year Leopold’s was welcomed with open arms by Russian Hill residents.

Owner Michele Steiner hopes that her new business will be well received by the residents of the Richmond neighborhood. The bar area features five flat screen TVs, lined on the wall and tuned to different sport games. Beers on tap: Spaten Oktoberfest, Spaten Munchen, Franziskaner Hefe-Weiss, Trumer Pils, Staropramen Premium, Speakeasy Prohibition Ale, Lagunitas IPA, and Stella Artois.

The kitchen is managed by her father, an Austrian chef. And the menu features bar-friendly appetizers like bruschetta, fried shrimp, fried calamari and grilled asparagus. For now, lunch entrees are limited to burgers, salads, fish & chips, bratwurst & weisswurst sausages, and wiener schnitzel. Dinner time adds a daily fish special, goulash, grilled pork chop, and NY sirloin steak. Weekend brunch hours are 10am – 2pm.
