When the large plate of food arrived at the retro, diner-style counter, it was somewhat surprising to see 4 panko-crusted croquettes, accompanied by a healthy portion of seasonal vegetables. The only element presented here that immediately evoked Thanksgiving was a small container of delicious, home-made cranberry sauce and, of course, the freshly-made, aromatic gravy gracefully steaming into the open air.
But after just one bite of this well-crafted concoction, all of the rich and familiar flavors of late November flooded my mouth with goodness. Little bits of buttermilk-marinated turkey were perfectly moist and complemented wonderfully by the velvety moosh of mashed potatoes, all set against the textural backbone of a crisp and savory bread stuffing and Panko crust.
Greeny’s Thanksgiving Dinner is a belly-filling triumph of fused flavors that is as comforting as it is original. This should ultimately come as no surprise considering that its creators, co-owners Stefanie Greenberg and her husband, chef Matthew Nudelman, are passionate about comfort food.
