You've Finished Your Book: Now What?

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at The Writing Salon (see times)
Are you finally ready to get your book out there? Or close enough to want to visualize the day? Whether your work is fiction, nonfiction, how-to, self-help, memoir, poetry, or an anthology, this workshop is for you. Shirin Yim Bridges, who has been published by the Big Five and has also self-published, will take you step-by-step through the “submit or self-publish?” decision process.

With all the options now open to you, which route is more likely to bring satisfaction and success? If you decide to submit, which strategies might maximize your chance of leapfrogging the slush pile? Which publishers should you target, big or small, and how do you find them? Or should you consider self-publishing? What exactly would that entail—digital, print-on-demand, printed books with national distribution, all of the above?—and what are the land mines to avoid?

Come with your questions and leave with a decision tree and some useful handouts. This informative session includes plenty of group discussion and Q&A time, to give you an insider’s peek at the publishing industry.

Shirin Yim Bridges has made the successful transition from author (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, HarperCollins, Chronicle Books) to award-winning editor and publisher (Goosebottom Books). She has given workshops and seminars on publishing and writing for the Mendocino Coast Writers’ Conference, the Book Passage Children’s Writers and Illustrators Conference, the Asian Festival of Children’s Content, Stanford University, San Francisco State University, Illinois State University, Dominican University, and the College of San Mateo.
