Rhythmix Cultural Works, Alameda’s destination for global arts and culture, presents the third annual Wine, Women & Song Festival on Saturday, August 20 from 3 pm to 7 pm at its beautifully renovated industrial performing arts space. All proceeds from the event support free cultural arts education programs for youth in Alameda and Oakland.

The festivities will spotlight women winemakers, musicians and artists, and will culminate in a concert from 5 pm to 7 pm featuring the one-night-only reunion of acclaimed Latin jazz fusion band Wild Mango. Other performers include taiko fusion ensemble Maze Daiko; funk, blues and rock singer/songwriterTracy Blackman; and Rhythmix’s 2015 Golden Gear Award winner for Best Performing Artist Diana Rowan on harp.

From 3 pm to 5 pm, participants will enjoy wine and food tastings in the Rhythmix courtyard, accompanied by live music, a salsa dance performance, a silent auction and wine raffle, and a panel discussion on women in the wine industry moderated by award-winning sommelier Traci Dutton of the Culinary Institute of America.

“When it comes to women in the wine industry in this region, we have just a ton of talent,” says Dutton, named one of the top wine country sommeliers byTasting Panel magazine. “I am so excited to hear from the panelists about their varied paths to success, as well as the opportunities they see women making in the field.”

For VIP ticket holders, additional reserve wines and exclusive food tastings will be served inside the K Gallery, where the exhibition Figure & Field will be on view. Featuring works by Helen S. Cohen, Sara Emsaki, Edith Hillinger andTosha Stimage, the show examines how artists play with formal qualities of space and depth as a strategy to engage questions of identity, culture, and physical and emotional place.

“We envision Wine, Women & Song as a festive way to bring people together to experience the thriving arts community that has blossomed in Alameda and the East Bay,” says Rhythmix Executive Director Tina Blaine, aka bean. “We have an incredible lineup of some of our region’s most talented women from both the wine industry and the arts all under one roof, and it’s for a great cause. Literally thousands of schoolchildren will get to experience a live cultural performance firsthand with help from the proceeds of this event.”

VIP and General Admission tickets are available at winewomensong.org. Early bird pricing runs through July 22.
