Description
In 1959 and 1960, photographer William Claxton and the late German musicologist Joachim Berendt traveled the United States is search of jazz. The result of their collaboration was a landmark collection of photographs and recordings which - having been long out of print - has now been reissued in a truly monumental new edition entitled Jazzlife. This event is Claxton's only San Francisco appearance.
William Claxton holds a special place in the history of American photography. Since his early days shooting for LIFE, Paris Match, and Vogue - Claxton has worked with many Hollywood luminaries and jazz musicians, most notably Steve McQueen and Chet Baker. Claxton, whose imagery has graced the covers of countless albums and magazine covers, is considered the preeminent photographer of jazz music.
