The Music of the Spheres concert series gives the public a chance to experience Lick Observatory at night!

Activities include a musical performance, an astronomy talk by a world-renowned scientist, viewings through both the historic 36-inch Great Lick Refractor telescope and 40-inch Nickel Reflector telescope, a fascinating talk about Lick Observatory's rich history, after-hours gift shop access, light refreshments, and astronomy discussions with amateur astronomers using their own ground telescopes.

Concert by:
White Album Ensemble

The White Album Ensemble is a 5-100 piece ensemble that covers Beatles music, but Beatles music that was never performed live. Excited at the possibilities of performing at the observatory, the group will opt for a minimal, 5 piece, "unplugged" sound, focusing on the vocal harmonies and beauty of songs like "Across the Universe," and "Fixing a hole," and "Because." The band plans to use keyboards and guitars, but no bass or drums so the sound can be contained.

Lecture by:
Michael Bolte, UCSC

Dr. Michael Bolte is a former Director of the University of California Observatories, and a Professor at UC Santa Cruz. His research interests include the ages of globular stars and the earliest stars to form in our galaxy.
