The West Coast Contact Improvisation JAM
The wcciJAM is a Contact Improvisation dance festival created by dancers, for dancers. The teachers and organizers work together to create a unique program of practice, research, play and peer exchange that caters to professionals and newcomers alike.
This year’s wcciJAM offers five day intensives by Sara Shelton Mann and Keith Hennessy: two San Francisco artists who have greatly influenced the performance and practice of Contact Improvisation in the Bay Area and worldwide. In addition, there is an exciting line-up of teachers both local and national, experienced and fresh, teaching single classes all throughout the event. Each evening begins with a fundamentals class, providing those new to the form an easy access into dancing and jamming.
A new endeavor since 2013, wcciJAM’s familyJAM and workshop every morning offer a possibility for dancing parents to share the joy of movement with their children. Laboratories are a peer led research forum where dancers come together to work on a shared question or aspect of the form they want to study. The festival also makes space for valuable one-on-one study time with teachers.
