Patrick Gil and Max Gardner are both San Francisco techno artists who help to run the local collective Direct to Earth. Direct to Earth, or DTE as known to its fans, fills in the blanks on where the electronic community was looking for more Detroit and Berlin-flavored techno and tech-house nights.
Patrick Gil recently released his first full length album with friend and collaborator N’Conduit on his own label Pressed Friends, on which he has previously released two other singles. These, along with his releases on local label CMYK Musik and the Sydney-based Gynoid Audio, have shown Gil’s interest in exploring the deeper shades of house and techno, often with a focus on the use of synthesizers and guitar pedals. His sounds tend to focus on depth and atmosphere while still being influenced by the history of Berlin and Detroit techno.
Max Gardner is an Oakland native who DJs with DTE as well as Oakland’s Shuffle Co-Op. In addition to his love for his local scene — for which he has opened for acts such as Carl Craig, Heiko Laux, and Marc Houle — Gardner is also a producer and remixer for labels like Coal Recs, Dark and Sonorous, and Emote. Max has been known to purport a bangin’ party with both his music and his dance floor vibe.
