Papa Lu is a Bay Area born & raised music man thats been involved with the local music scene for almost 2 decades. Before there was House Music, there was his first love, Hip Hop. Lu and his early crew's efforts made serious statements within the local scene with shows hosting acts from Digable Planets, Gang Starr, Digital Underground and more.
Working closely with local DJs, artist, venues and music labels brought Lu into the underground landscape, and with time, Lu's musical taste grew. He gives nods to Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, and Mark Farina for his first exposure. Shortly after Lu was engulfed in House, Techno and Disco Music. With new passion came a new night called "Night Moves”, which continued Lu’s musical exploration. Night Moves continued for 2 years hosting international & local talent, including WERD. Alum Kevin Knapp. Lu really developed his DJ skills while warming up for his guests. Eventually Papa Lu the DJ arrived, gaining recognition as a local taste maker for his bookings and soon notoriety as San Francisco’s favorite upcoming DJs.
2015 proved to be Lu's biggest year, headlining dates both locally and abroad, and releasing his first studio project "Set In Stone" alongside longtime friend Brian Boogie. Their first release "Bad One" featured the sultry vocals of San Francisco soul man Rojai (Bayonics, The Pocket, Starship Connection). The track received acclaim as a house anthem and made top 10 charts on both traxsourse and beatport!
We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Papa Lu and we are excited to have him this week at WERD!!
