We Are Five!

In Honor of the 5th Anniversary of Kinetic Arts Center, this year’s theme is WE ARE FIVE! Help us Celebrate with a Five-Year-Old Style Birthday Party. Imagine the best birthday party you could ever have as a five-year old. Imagine everything that could go wrong at a perfectly planned five-year-old birthday party. That is what you are going see in the Kinetic Arts Center’s 2014 Annual Circus Cabaret & Festival.

Each year Kinetic Arts Center produces this Circus Cabaret Festival with a different theme. Last year the theme was I Hate the Holidays and the year before Post-Apocalyptic Cabaret. “This year, we draw the line at scary birthday clowns,” says Jaron Hollander, Artistic Director and co-owner of Kinetic Arts Center, “Just up to that point, you are only limited by your ideas of what is fun or what could go wrong at a five-year-old birthday party.”

How does the festival work? Each act in the Festival is assigned to perform either Friday or Saturday night (Nov 14 & 15). Advancement to the final round on Sunday (Nov 16) is through popular vote. Yes, participants can stack the house but each audience must choose at least four acts to be fair to everyone. Sunday evening is an adjudicated event and the advanced acts are competing for cash prizes or (or a personalized birthday cake for their next birthday) in the following categories: Best of Show in each Comedy and Aerial/Acrobatics. Additional prizes are available for runner ups and other skills we haven’t thought of yet. “Although the actual prize of cash OR a fancy birthday cake is a little tongue and cheek to the whole festival structure found all over the world now,” Says Victoria Angello, Managing Director for Kinetic Arts Center, “The intention is always to highlight and honor quality performances all weekend long.”

All Festival weekend (and in celebration of Kinetic Arts Center’s 5th Anniversary), audience can also participate in birthday games – with a circus twist. Games like ‘Pin the Tale on the (circus object TBD)’ and ‘Contortionist Twister’ are some of the game ideas being bantered about at this time. Prizes for the winners of these games will also be rewarded and everyone can decorate a birthday party hat to take home! It’s going to be a great birthday celebration.
