Wanderlust: Photographs by Harlan Crowder

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Foothill College (see times)
Foothill College presents Wanderlust, a solo photographic exhibition by Sunnyvale-based photographer Harlan Crowder, Oct. 30 through Dec. 5, in the Krause Center for Innovation (KCI) Gallery at Foothill College. An opening reception is set for Thursday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the KCI Gallery. Admission is free; parking is $3.

The Wanderlust exhibit offers a rich collection of unique travel photographs that ranges from images of environmental portraits and street photography to the beauty of landscapes and seascapes.

Featuring images from the hectic streets of Old Havana to the tranquil shores of Myanmar’s Inle Lake; from mystic Roman ruins in Provence to the bustling new neighborhoods of Shanghai; and from Boston Harbor to San Francisco Bay, Crowder captures photographs that give a unique and personal perspective to places, cultures and people around the world. Wanderlust showcases travel photographs he has made over the last decade in North and South America, Asia, Africa and Europe.

Crowder photographs and travels extensively. “For me travel photography is about capturing images that give a sense of place and the people who live there," he said. "For example, the fishermen on Inle Lake in Miramar have an unusual way of navigating their boats that isn’t practiced anywhere else in the world. Being able to journey to new places to photograph remote cultures is what makes travel photography so inspiring and rewarding.”

Raised in Dallas, Texas, Crowder started photographing at age 12. However, before launching his photographic career, he specialized in the theory and practice of information technology with several companies, including a career with IBM as a research scientist, software developer and management consultant. His passion is the junction of art and engineering, using photography and digital imaging to make interesting pictures. He has shown his work in group exhibitions in Prague, Havana and throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. This is his first solo exhibit. View more of his work at https://www.harlancrowder.com.

The KCI Gallery is open Mondays–Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The gallery is closed Sundays and for holidays on Nov. 10 and Nov. 27–30.

Parking Lot 4 provides the best access to the KCI. A parking permit is required at all times. Purchase permit for $3 at dispensers in any student lot. Dispensers accept one-dollar bills and quarters. Foothill College is located off I-280 on El Monte Road in Los Altos Hills.
