Local Sirens: Women in Music Fest is a free, quarterly performance series curated by Women's Audio Mission with support from California Arts Council, the Zellerbach Foundation, and the Phyllis C Wattis Foundation that features Bay Area women composers and musicians. The series promotes local women artists and provides high-quality, accessible music events to Bay Area residents and the SoMa/Central Market neighborhoods.
In March, Local Sirens will feature performances by:
PAMELA Z is a composer/performer and media artist who makes solo works combining a wide range of vocal techniques with electronic processing, samples, gesture activated MIDI controllers, and video. She has toured extensively throughout the US, Europe, and Japan. Her work has been presented at venues and exhibitions including Bang on a Can (NY), the Japan Interlink Festival, Other Minds (SF), the Venice Biennale, and the Dakar Biennale. She's created installation works and has composed scores for dance, film, and new music chamber ensembles. Her numerous awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Creative Capital Fund, the CalArts Alpert Award, The MAP Fund, the ASCAP Award, an Ars Electronica honorable mention, the NEA/JUSFC Fellowship, and a Djerrassi Resident Artist Program residency. https://www.pamelaz.com
HI SCORES is the brainchild of Oakland based producer Jason Stinnett aka JAYSONIK (HOTTUB/CA510/LE HEAT RECORDS) and Janaysa Lambert (MORTAR & PESTAL). Inspired by Phil Spector's Wall of Sound juxtaposed with R&B harmonies and a 2 Step bounce, HI SCORES swerves between the two lane highway of fiction and fantasy.
