UC Santa Cruz's Arts Division, Film & Digital Media, and History of Art & Visual Culture departments are proud to present a Visual and Media Cultures Colloquium with Karen Beckman. She will present a lecture entitled "What Cinema Is and Isn't: Animating the Cinefils." Karen Beckman is the Elliot and Roslyn Jaffe Professor of Cinema and Modern Media in the department of the History of Art at the University of Pennsylvania, and is the author of Vanishing Women: Magic, Film and Feminism; Crash: Cinema and the Politics of Speed and Stasis; and is now working on a new book, Animation and the Contemporary Art of War. This lecture will take place in Studio C of the Communication Building.
