Join Chinatown Branch Library's monthly World Literature Book Club for a stimulating discussion of Vikram Seth's remarkable novel in verse, The Golden Gate. Inspired by Alexander Pushkin’s Eugene Onegin, Seth’s charming and moving tale relates the joys and sorrows of four young professionals looking for love and friendship in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1980s. The Golden Gate was called “The Great California Novel” by critic Gore Vidal, and of all the works set in San Francisco, this book is one of the most enjoyable and poetic.
Our group meets the first Thursday of each month, 6:30-8:30 pm, in the Chinatown Branch Library (1135 Powell St.). All Library events are free and open to the public. New members are always welcome!
Here are more Book Club Selections for the first half of 2016:
April 7: The Golden Gate by Vikram Seth
May 5: Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
June 2: Nightwood by Djuna Barnes
