Unwritten Law has been hacking away at the mainstream for more than a decade -- founded back in the old days of cassette tapes and punk zines (aka 1990), the band has persisted, releasing six albums and gathering a huge following of loyal fans. San Diego with its skate punks and surf dudes, and it's alt radio station 91X, has produced some influential rock and hardcore bands, like Unwritten Law's contemporaries Rocket From The Crypt and the recently in turmoil Blink 182. This land was the perfect petry dish for UL's brand of power pop turned rock punk. Lineup changes, physical fights, alleged drug habits, and band drama may be a signature for any successful alternative rock band, but Unwritten Law somehow has turned the ups and downs into fuel to keep the music coming. Over the years, frontman Scott Russo's songwriting seems to have grown in strength despite the tolls of aging in the rock biz. These guys can still pull in a big crowd of teens and old punks alike, because the live show is so captivating, complete with pop punk energy and the wisened old spirit of the early 2000s (and hey, you may get to see something crazy go down). The band is currently working on an acoustic album and new material, so expect to see something in that vein. Even an acoustic set can make fans go wild -- and strip Unwritten Law down to its essence: fun, popworthy rock songs that will remind you of how great music can be.
