"UnReal Estate IV: The Movie"

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Spoke art is pleased to welcome back gallery artist Tim Doyle for his fourth solo exhibition of his on-going “UnReal Estate” series. For this year’s installment, Doyle has tackled all new locations from cinema’s most popular cult classics, re-imagining their locales in his signature style.

“UnReal Estate IV: The Movie” is a complete transformation from previous years, shifting the artist’s focus towards the big screen. Paying homage to some of cinema’s iconic locations, Doyle is able to reconstruct these landscapes in his personal surreal style. One could say that the environments of these movies are just as important as the characters that inhabit them. Doyle has not limited himself to one genre but rather explored a multitude of different films, covering everything from Miyazaki’s inspired “Sprited Away” to Tarantino’s edgy “Pulp Fiction”.

Since it’s debut in 2012, the “UnReal Estate” series has been a massive success, with all three previous shows selling out in full. For “UnReal Estate IV: The Movie” Doyle has interpreted a wide range of iconic movie locales, ranging from contemporary to classical. Through the artist’s perspective, we are given a glimpse into Doyle’s alternate cinematic view, completely recognizable yet entirely original.

Comprised of a total of ten designs, Doyle has created both original pen and ink drawings as well as hand-pulled screen prints (with accompanying variant editions) Starting with hand-drawn illustrations, Doyle then scans and digitally colors in his original illustrations. From there he screen-prints all his editions in-house at his Austin studio, Nakatomi. With immense precision and craftsmanship, Doyle utilizes clever printing techniques such as split fountains and glow in the dark inks to add a special element to each design. A veritable display, “UnReal Estate IV: The Movie” truly showcases the artist’s ranging talents as both an illustrator and screen-printer.

Limited edition prints will be available first to attendees of the July 2nd opening reception, with remaining copies available online the following week. As a special treat to all attendees, there will be an exclusive limited edition give-away print, only available to the first 50 people at the opening. The artist will be in attendance and complimentary beverages will be served.
