Manresa Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition featuring vesture and related objects from Tibetan and Zen Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism on loan from Bay Area individuals and religious organizations.
The exhibition asserts that aspects of religions can share not only visual similarities but also conceptual foundations, and even practices. Worship services traditionally offer the opportunity for a group to move confidently beyond a sense of being caught in a fallible earthly dilemma, toward hope for an integrated Beyond—Ritual vestments confirm that view.
Under Cover is co-curated by Gallery Director, James Blaettler, S.J. and guest curator Maureen Bourbin. Ms. Bourbin has an M.A. in Museum Studies from San Francisco State University, and specializes in researching symbolism in Spanish Colonial devotional artwork.
Manresa Gallery exhibits contemporary art of historical and aesthetic importance to foster interfaith dialog. The Gallery is located inside St. Ignatius Church, in the Richmond neighborhood of San Francisco.
Gallery Hours: Thursday & Friday 1pm – 5pm and Sundays between Masses + 2pm – 5pm
