Description
Trio 3 is an all-star partnership of equals, a pyrotechnic project that brings together masters who have each forged a singular path on the edgier side of jazz. Featuring World Saxophone Quartet altoist Oliver Lake, bassist Reggie Workman (John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter) and drummer Andrew Cyrille
(David Murray, Cecil Taylor) the group explores a range of strategies, from spontaneous group interaction to carefully structured composition. The trio’s music can sound utterly abstract or steeped in the blues, and sometimes both at once. Each member contributes to the band’s repertoire, which also includes pieces by illustrious but neglected composers such as Andrew Hill, John Carter and Bobby Bradford. Two new albums to be released this year will capture this highly creative collective in full flight, an awesome experience indeed.
