Trez Maschine, Shine Delirious and Slab City at the Stork Club in Oakland

SEE EVENT DETAILS
First up is Trez Maschine:

The hard-driving three-piece band Trez Maschine has progressive elements of rock and punk with melodic overtones. Their songwriting skills as a band clearly demonstrate their musicianship on a professional level. While possible to pinpoint elements reminiscent of influential bands like Primus, Oingo Boingo, Rush, King Crimson or Mr. Bungle, the band is uniquely their own and flawlessly crosses boundaries in each and every song.

Trez Maschine is co-fronted by guitarist/vocalist Gorden Mack and bassist/vocalist Brian Kenney. 2013 found Brian looking for a new band to create a dynamic sound with quirky / interesting rhythms. Gorden heard the songs ideas and potential as well for a new sound. 2014 was when the lineup solidified with drummer Rick Smyth joining the band and adding the driving rhythm that would bring the whole sound together.

Gorden plays through a unique stereo guitar system with a careful selection of delays and reverbs with paralleled guitar synthesizers, creating a larger than life sound. His vocals, reminiscent of Pete Townsend at times, climb from melodic valleys to raspy peaks. This adds more dynamics to Trez Maschine’s overall sound and meshes perfectly with Brian’s vocal style. Gorden’s past band, Red House Painters, gained national attention and gave him the opportunity to tour the world. Gorden’s guitar and vocals are backed by rhythm section Brian Kenney on bass and harmony / lead vocals with percussionist Rick Smyth.

Brian’s unique approach pounds out bass tones, sometimes through a dizzying array of effects. This gives Trez Maschine’s sound added depth and tonal range while also giving melody and odd sounds not usually associated with the instrument. Brian’s rhythmic vocal style provides counter-punch to the songs’ melodies, going from sweeping vocal lines to staccato punch over thoughtful lyrics. Brian had been in numerous Bay Area bands that had gained dedicated followings (Backward Mask, Adverse Side-FX and Degenerate Elite) and were support bands to local favorites Skanking Pickle as well as national acts NOFX, Suicidal Tendencies and Unwritten Law.

Rick Smyth on drums provides a heavy and consistent rhythm with needed flare to enhance the musicianship of his fellow players. His past band Blind Nurse was a support band for Yes.

Trez Maschine is a band that should not be overlooked; they are truly a unique and beautiful band.

Then Shine Delerious (a Yes Cover Band):

Featuring Kevin Seal on Keyboards, Gary Hobish on Bass, JoJo Razor on lead vocals, Josef Becker on Drums, Gorden Mack on Lead Guitar and JJ Houlobek on Rhythm, Guitar.

The band consists of lifelong Yes fans who are independently successful musicians who came together for their love of the classic Yes albums such as Yes Songs, Close to the Edge and Fragile. All memeber s are quality vocalists as well, helping the band perform many of the required multi-part vocal harmonies.

Slab City:

A technical metal band that sits well playing with the previous bands, providing everything a progressive rock fan could desire, just a little heavier. Featuring Jim Reaper on bass Kevin Rowland on guitar Derek Dunaway on drums.

Ride the aggressive peaks and beautiful valleys these guys create.
