The TechShop Gallery-San Francisco will open a unique exhibition titled Trade Beads, on Oct 20, featuring Artist-in-Residence Constantine Zlatev.
Trade Beads, showcasing several new works by Zlatev, is a reflection on the historical significance and use of trade beads as a powerful currency & tool in the African slave trade and colonization, between the 16th & 20th century. The works on show draw a parallel with the global arms trade in contemporary history as a similar means of influence over present-day developing nations.
Constantine Zlatev is a San Francisco based sculptor and designer, utilizing disabled armaments & industrial materials to make conceptually driven sculptures and installations. He exhibits regularly across the United States as well as Europe.
