Tom Bolles and Andrew Burgess
October 16 – November 15, 2013
Opening Reception: Wednesday, October 16, 2013, 5:30 - 7:30 PM
Andrea Schwartz Gallery is pleased to announce a two-person exhibition featuring new paintings by Tom Bolles and Andrew Burgess opening Wednesday, October 16, 2013.
The subjects of my paintings are essentially the materials, the colors and the surfaces. -- Tom Bolles
In his new series, Binary, Tom Bolles blends computer-generated work and his characteristic style of minimal color field painting. When viewed up close the surfaces of this new series exposes a network of thousands of tiny 0’s and 1’s. Bolles uses this binary vocabulary as an acknowledgement of our increasingly digital world, where technology, like all tools, has both advantages and limitations.
My paintings explore abstraction through the form of architectural space. --Andrew Burgess
Andrew Burgess combines his love of abstract painting and his interest in architectural spaces to create works that blur the line between representational and abstraction. His urban panoramas and cityscapes explore abstraction through the geometric patterns and color blocks formed by rooftops and buildings.
Andrea Schwartz Gallery was established in 1982 and is located in the South of Market district of San Francisco in our new gallery space located at 545 – 4th Street. ASG exhibits contemporary work of mid-career artists from the Bay Area and across the country. ASG is a member of SFADA. Gallery Hours are Monday - Friday 9 - 5, Saturday by appointment.
