A photographic exploration of the Past & Present 24th Street

May 24 - 27 (projections on view nightly, r/SF open 8-10pm to facilitate viewing)

Reception: May 26 8-10pm with guest speakers

Christina Marie Klein’s 24th Street Archive is a reactivation of San Francisco’s visual history with nightly projections along storefronts of 24th street today. The project’s goal is pure engagement of viewers outside the traditional gallery setting. Klein connects viewer’s present surroundings with archival images from the same location as sourced through the SF Main Public Library’s Historical Photo Collection. In addition to this literal connection, the project will develop its own contemporary archive through documentation of 24th Street’s present moment to give back to the SF Main Public Library Historical Photo Collection. Linked documentation creating a conversation of present and past, fostering awareness and contemplation of space and time is Klein’s key inspiration for this project.

Zines with maps and images will be available daily outside r/SF! Grab one and start exploring!

Please join us Thursday May 26th from 8-10pm for more projections and Klein in conversation with speakers are were integral to her research and the success of the project. The projections will be on view nightly in the various storefronts as dusk falls and residence/SF will be open to the public May 24 - 27 from 8-10pm with rotating projected images. Staff will be on hand to answer questions and direct viewers to participating storefronts.
