| Description Now in its nineteenth season, Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra presents adventurous, exciting, innovative music not commonly performed in our community. Insights from the Conductor at 7pm Conductor Dr. John Anderson gives a lively, entertaining, and informative 20-minute to half-hour pre-concert talk before each concert performance. These talks are followed by a coffee, tea and dessert reception. All concert ticket holders are invited to attend these free talks and receptions. Don't miss the best-kept secret in town! Enjoy Dr. Anderson's knowledgeable and often humorous insights on the music and get even more out of the performances! Program: Claude Debussy Trio for Flute, Viola and Harp Toru Takemitsu Trio for Flute, Viola and Harp Randall Thompson Suite for Obe, Clarinet and Viola Andre Jolivet Pastorales de Noel Alec Wilder Suite for Obe, Clarinet and Bassoon Conductor Dr. John Anderson founded Ensemble Monterey in 1992 as a consortium of professional musicians in the greater Monterey Bay area. Since its inception, Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra's goal has been to bring to life master works of chamber literature not often performed by other groups. Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra specializes in compositions for larger sized, often conducted, chamber orchestras. Many of the pieces Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra performs are not presented by chamber music groups because the number of players required is too large, but are also not presented by symphonic organizations because the number of players required is too small. Since its first concert in 1992, Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra has enjoyed gratifying critical response. One critic recently wrote of EMCO's performance of Composer-in-Residence Stephen Tosh's Covenant of Light in Carmel's Sunset Center, "We are very lucky on the Central Coast to be able to enjoy the collaborative excellence and professional talent of Ensemble Monterey, Cantiamo and Stephen Tosh." [Barbara Rose Schuler, The Monterey Herald]. Another critic recently wrote, “Ensemble Monterey, John Anderson’s elite chamber orchestra from around the Monterey Bay, is a well-kept secret in Santa Cruz. But it deserves to be told.” [Phyllis Rosenblum, Santa Cruz Sentinel]. The musicians of Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra are recognized area professionals and include Principal Chairs of Monterey Symphony, Santa Cruz County Symphony and other Monterey Bay and San Francisco Bay area professional music organizations. A volunteer Board of Directors sets Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra policy, raises funds for EMCO, and serves to publicize EMCO's concerts and activities.
