WHAT: "Thoroughly Modern Millie"
A sheltered, mid-western young woman, Millie Dillmount, moves to New York City hoping to marry for money instead of love – a thoroughly modern thing for a woman to do in 1922. Millie moves into a residence hotel for single women and adopts the new flapper lifestyle. But, things get complicated with two millionaires, a famous jazz singer, mistaken identities, romance and the threat of a sinister kidnapping syndicate.
Based on the cheeky 1967 film starring Julie Andrews, "Thoroughly Modern Millie" is a whimsical, old fashioned Broadway musical for all ages - featuring romantic ballads, tap dancing and show-stopping musical numbers.
Directed and choreographed by Nicola Bosco-Alvarez, this full-staged production showcases performers of the Young People’s Teen Musical Theatre Company with live music orchestration under the musical direction of Jess Hamel, with Zoe Davis.
Celebrating its 30th Anniversary in 2015, the Young People's Teen Musical Theatre Company is a teenage performing arts company (sponsored by the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department and The Friends of the Company) offering instruction in drama, voice, acting, dance and technical theater and the opportunity to experience musical theater at a professional level.
