“Third Thursdays” at Filoli

SEE EVENT DETAILS
On August 21, 2014 Filoli is open until 7:30 pm. Visitors will be able to take a docent-led Sunset Hike, an Orchard Walk or just unwind and enjoy the historic House and world-famous Garden until 7:30 pm at Filoli’s first ever series of “Third Thursdays.” The Garden and Gift Shop will be open.

SUNSET HIKES and ORCHARD WALKS are guided by knowledgeable Docents and begin at 6:00 pm promptly. Reservations are recommended, but drop-ins are taken on a first-come-first-served basis. Wear sturdy shoes. Visit the Filoli website at https://www.filoli.org for complete information.
Sunset Hikes
Friends and family can walk in Filoli’s woodlands by the light of the setting sun and experience the tranquility of Filoli’s Nature Preserve at dusk. This is the ideal time of day to spot Filoli’s resident wildlife and bring cameras and binoculars. Filoli’s Nature Preserve has more than 7 miles of trails crisscrossing 6 different types of native California habitat. The two-hour, docent-led hike covers approximately 3 miles of well-maintained trails and at times it can be strenuous. Experienced Nature Education Docents describe wildlife, plants, endangered species and the historical background of the area. Children ages 5 and older are welcome; strollers cannot be accommodated on the trails. Wear sturdy shoes. Visitors may not hike without a Docent.

Orchard Walks
Filoli has the largest heirloom orchard in private hands in the United States. It is 6.8 acres and includes more than 600 fruit trees, many of them are rare. During the docent-led tour of this unique orchard, visitors are able to taste fruit (when available) right off the tree, learn about the tradition of how Filoli is conserving not only the rare fruits and trees, but also this defining landscape feature of this country estate. Wear sturdy shoes.

June through October admission fees: Admission is free for current members of Filoli. For non-members, admission is Adults $18, Seniors (65 years and older) $15, students $8 (ages 5 through 17 or with valid student ID); no admission charge for children 4 years and younger. Group rates are available for groups of 12 or more adults by contacting Visitor Services at (650) 364-8300, ext. 508.
