Ah...there's nothing quite like a summer festival. The sun on your back, the delicious aroma of greasy food, live music, miles of booths, hours of people watching - and the best part is the (usually) free admission. Now, that's a deal. This week is chock full of fests. But tonight start things off with a little theater: Edward Albee's At Home at the Zoo at A.C.T. World music has a new home Thursday nights at Bollyhood Café with Mestiza and DJ Juan Data spinning the best in progressive Latin and global beats. Or save yourself for the much-anticipated Rapture DJ Set at Mighty. The weekend opens with the Harmony Festival at Sonoma County Fairgrounds. This Bay Area favorite will feature dozens of bands, including Michael Franti & Spearhead, the Dead Kennedys, and Matisyahu, a global marketplace and booths centered on community activism and progressive ideals. If you want to keep things closer to home, then the North Beach Festival and the Haight-Ashbury Street Festival offer plenty to choose from. Both are great and both will give you a taste of the city's eclectic cultures. And for all you foodies out there, don't miss the Great American Food and Music Fest at Shoreline Amphitheatre where the best eats in America will be on display. On Sunday, the Live Oak Park Fair in Oakland will be in full swing featuring fine crafts and contemporary art...along with all the things we love about summer fests!
