Gallery1988 San Francisco is proud to announce its upcoming exhibition, a tradition at the gallery, "The Vivisect Playset (Round 4)." Curated by Los Angeles artist Luke Chueh and Gallery1988, "The Vivisect Playset" was first established in 2004, when the gallery extended Chueh an offer to assemble a line-up of artists that were both his friends, and creators he looked up to. Luke then decided the show would incorporate artists who utilize animals in their work to convey human conditions or comment on society, in the same vain that his own art doubles beyond the cuddly creatures he depicts. The result was not only an astounding amount of sales, success and attention, but marked the first traditional art gallery exhibitions of Joe Ledbetter and Thomas Han, two artists who have went on to create quite a name for themselves in the emerging art genre.
In 2005, Luke extended invitations to more artists, including established talents like Jeremy Fish and Andrew Brandou, and "The Vivisect Playset" became a yearly mainstay and one of Gallery 1988's most anticipated events. This year, "The Vivisect Playset (Round 4)" includes alumni from past years, as well as a few new names including Erik Alos, Anthony Ausgang, Alex Pardee, Luke Chueh, Mari Inukai, Angry Woebots, Amy Sol, Peter Gronquist, Roland Tamayo, Joe Ledbetter, Isaac Pierro, Dave Pressler, Amanda Visell, Rachel Wong, Paul Barnes, Matt Dangler, Mark Elliott, Brendon Flynn, Walt Hall, Phill Holmes, Kamala Dolphin Kingsley, Peek-A-Boo, and Robert Fayze Pellicer. In addition to this impressive lineup, we will also be releasing an exclusive Greg "Craola" Simkins "I'M SCAR3D" print at the opening reception.
"The Vivisect Playset (Round 4)" will open on Saturday night, December 1, 2007 with an opening reception from 7-10 PM. The opening reception is open to all ages and is free of charge. Luke Chueh and Greg Simkins will be attending the opening reception.
This show will run through December 23, 2006. Gallery1988 is located at 1173 Sutter Street (b/w Polk and Larkin). You can learn more about the gallery at http://www.gallery1988.com
