Description

The Usual Suspects Songwriter Showcase returns in May to 50 Mason Social House for show #14. Big 14 features:

Jeff Campbell http://www.jeffcampbellmusic.com/

Recently selected as the winner out of over 13,000 entrants in the 2013 Guitar Center Singer Songwriter Competition, Philadelphia native Jeff Campbell moved to San Francisco in 2004 specifically for the newer Rock scene he had heard was developing. After a few years of trying to balance learning the West Coast Music Scene with his day job, the job was cast aside in favor of full time touring, writing and recording for a living.

Jeffís onstage experiences have found him sharing the stage with members of Counting Crows, Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead and opening for Grammy-winning band Train. Early 2012 saw the release of Campbellís first-ever acoustic album, "Stop and Go". With this album, Jeff fulfilled his promise to stay true to the songwriting style that P&B fans have come to know but also to test some boundaries with production, approach and style. "Stop and Go" also boasts guest performances from several of the Bay area's finest musicians, including Megan Slankard, Brad Brooks, Austin Wilacy and James Deprato, who not only offered their performance talents, but also lent their hands with songwriting, arrangements and production.

Jeff has been touring the US to support this new release since the fall of 2011 and will continue to do so throughout 2012 and beyond and will not stop until his piece of history is defined.

Matt Lucas http://www.theopenmatt.com/

Matt Lucas is a national touring songwriter, touring with his own bands and as a session player/music director for other groups with Alternative Tentacles (DK), and Kill Rockstars (Elliot Smith). Sharing the stage and bills with acts worthy of name dropping, but who really cares. Flagpole magazine wrote, "Musically speaking... this is not your father's folk music... this guys got a lot of energy" His off the cuff musical style has him performing and recording all over the country, and with groups ranging from Mike Doughty to Dave Donderro to Kid Rock. Written up as "an intense and prolific songwriter, Matt Lucas carries a thematic boldness with dichotomy between lyrics and melodies. Songs about love may sound punkish while others about death may sound like gritty old folk standards. It's hard not to absorb his celebration of music..."

Robin Applewood http://www.dogmanjoe.com

Three time honorable mention on VH1's Song of the Year, Robin Applewood sees his music career as giving back. His songs tell a tale of Love and the struggle of everyday living, tempered with an "everything's gonna be alright" attitude. Such a positive vibe is combined with a healthy mixture of Rock, Reggae, Pop, Soul, Funk,
Folk, Disco and Electronic music to offer an upbeat sound that appeals to a wide audience.

An active member in the Bay Area music community, Robin founded Bay Vibes - a trusted hub for favorite local musicians. Bay Vibes has produced over 350 live-music events, including 4 large Festivalís and has been closely involved raising money for Cancer research, AIDS, Diabetes, Hurricane Katrina, and Surfrider foundation. When Robinís not putting on events, touring and recording, you may happen across him on a remote beach, or in a local joint sharing tales and music or catching the perfect wave in his beloved home town of San Francisco.

Alex Jimenez http://www.reverbnation.com/alexjimenez

Host Alex Jimenez has been playing music since his parents bought him his first guitar when he was 12. A product of the local indie music scene, Alexís music has dark acoustic overtones, heavy on the rhythm, and influenced by local bands such as Blue Movie and Hugh. You can also hear the country and folk influences in his playing. Itís this blend of styles, beautiful guitar melodies and pounding rhythms that give his music a unique yet familiar sound. March 2012 saw the release of his first album, a duet with drummer Mark Edgar called 'The Acoustik Projekt', and he is eagerly writing and getting tracks together for his second solo outing.

Alex is honored to be a part of a thriving songwriter community here in the Bay Area, and is honored to share the stage with them monthly, through the Usual Suspects Songwriter Showcase.
