The Surreal Music and Instrumentation of Walter Kitundu
Situation Abnormal: Performances You’ll Never See On Broadway
Thursday, March 17, 8:30pm
Kitundu’s performance includes two new phonoharps, one of which is a bowed turntable inspired by an Indian sarangi, the other, a new light-activated instrument of his own design. The songs demonstrate the range of the turntable as a musical instrument and illustrate the myriad influences (global cultures, architecture, the environment, hip-hop, and philosophy) that color the process of imagining and building new instruments. For reservations, call (415) 561-0308. Tickets to each event are included in the price of same-day admission to the Exploratorium ($12).
