The Sorcerer

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Stanford Dinkelspiel Auditorium (see times)
The Stanford Savoyards, a student-run community theatre troupe dedicated to Gilbert & Sullivan, celebrates their 40th anniversary with a phantasmagorical production of The Sorcerer. This mirthful operetta reveals the results of romance gone awry, where the most unlikely of couples find themselves supernaturally enamoured courtesy of the besotted lover Alexis’s misguided desire for his whole community regardless of “age, rank, or fortune” to experience his passion for the lady Aline. Can such magical mayhem be untangled? Not without dire consequences!

Directed by Jeremy Erman and Sharon Beltracchi, long-time Savoyards veterans, this musical fantasy provides delightful delusion where nothing is quite as it seems: helpful-seeming friends may turn out to be servants of dark powers; enchanted spirits lurk at the edges of the village, eager to be set free; and a simple cup of tea may bring everlasting love...or everlasting sorrow.

Vocal Director Joe Haletky is a founding member of the Savoyards and has 38 years of singing and conducting experience. Music Director Jeff Yaeger, a Savoyard since 2001, conducts his 4th Gilbert & Sullivan production in the Bay Area and has also performed in every G&S show except Utopia Ltd.
