The fabulous Eye of Kali ruby has been stolen at the Duchess of Manchester's ball. Join young Mycroft and Sherlock Holmes as they attempt to solve the mystery and avert a scandal which could seriously damage the reputation of the Royal Family while we waltz, polka, schottische mazurka, and quadrille to the most elegant dance music of the late 19th century.

Suggested costume is late Victorian evening dress or dress uniform. We intend to be just as vague about dates as the future Dr. Watson will be so the setting of the ball is vaguely the 1870's, when Mr. Mycroft Holmes is at the start of his career with Her Majesty's Secret Service and his teenage brother Sherlock is just beginning to show an aptitude for the science of deduction. Those of you who prefer the fashions of the 1880's and 90's should certainly feel free to wear them, and modern evening dress is perfectly acceptable. In honour of Her Majesty's new title of Empress of India, native Indian costume is also most welcome.

In honour of our special guests, their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales, the celebrated chamber ensemble Bangers and Mash will play a full evening of Victorian couple and set dances, focusing, as usual on their superb repertoire of popular waltzes. If you wish a comprehensive review of the evening's quadrilles, be sure to attend the pre-ball workshop at 7 pm, but all set dances will be briefly taught or called at the ball. We realize that some of our guests are from America and from other parts of the Empire.

As usual, complimentary punch and a light snack buffet will be served throughout the evening and our hostess appreciates your potluck contribution to her kitchen.
