Description

The Buzz: The San Francisco Chronicle described tenor Charles Castronovo's voice as "beautifully textured - the high notes fresh and burnished, the lower range sweet but substantial." Castronovo and William Dazeley will bring their vocal prowess to the duet "Au fond du temple saint," made famous through the recordings of legendary tenor Enrico Caruso.

The Spark: Bizet found his first critical success with this 1863 lyric opera, written in only three months for a composition competition.

The Story: In a quiet fishing village, best friends Zurga and Nadir swear an oath of friendship, vowing never again to let the love of a girl, Leila, come between them. However, when Leila returns, Nadir ignores his promise. Zurga wishes to kill them both but remembers an earlier act of loyalty and instead masterminds a selfless plot to save their lives.
