The Last Internationale: New York has given us a lot of great things: tasty pizza, SNL, those shirts with hearts on them that help you declare what you love. But in 2014, New York has given us something we can use right now: rock trio The Last Internationale. The band may stem from folk roots, but they are squarely on the rock and roll track now. The Last Internationale is a conscious rock and roll band fronted by powerhouse/goddess Delila Paz. Somehow, this band can make meaningful songs with a radical message -- all without losing the audience. In Miss Paz the soul of Grace Slick meets the ferocity of Joan Jett, with the spirit of a union leader wrapped up in there too. But she has plenty of help: amazing drumming from Rage Against The Machine's Brad Wilk and soaring guitars lift the music to a whole other plane, one where rock and roll is set free to build and destroy with ease thanks to devastating lyrics that are focused on the important work of human rights and rebellion. Not your average teenage rebellion, but the kind of optimistic rebellion that would make Pete Seeger smile. Their name seems to be a global invitation for workers, the oppressed, and people who want to change the world to get together and boogie -- and while that might not happen anytime soon (Damn You! Powers that be!), the band's sound is still an excuse to rock out. Live, each person on stage brings boundless energy. When you see them, you cannot help but recall that Brad Wilk was in friggin' Rage Against The Machine! And you cannot help but dance and listen as The Last Internationale delivers an important message (or several) wrapped up in succinct, catchy, hard rock.
