A new local band is making its debut at Cafe Stritch. The Gentle Cycle features a lineup of San Jose indie rock veterans, including guitarist and vocalist Derek See, formerly of The Careless Hearts; former Ugly Winner guitarist Maxwell Borkenhagen; Todd Flannagan of No Maps on bass; and Yoni Kifle formerly of Unit Breed on drums. The quartet craft slow-churning, fuzzy, rock & roll, with plenty of wah-wah, reverb and feedback--not to mention some seriously psyched-out blues- and country-flavored licks. They are joined by the explosive and frenetic, Cursive-esque Boston band, Pile, and San Francisco indie trio Couches.
