The innovative non profit organization, everyday gandhis, invites you to review the new documentary film THE FIGHT TO FORGIVE and meet one of the world’s 200,000 child soldiers, and one of the few who’s been able to tell his story of life after war. He’s bringing his story to San Francisco on May 31st and we hope you will join us at the screening.
At the age of eleven Lassana Kanneh, along with 20,000 other children, was forced to fight in Liberia’s brutal civil war. Today, Lassana is a grassroots peacebuilder and a U.S. college student. His mission now is to help other disaffected youth reject violence. He believes in second chances.
Lassana’s journey from child soldier to peacebuilder is profiled in the new documentary THE FIGHT TO FORGIVE. The film follows a group of former child soldiers for five years, as they make peace with their former commander and confront their own war atrocities. No other film has ever been granted this level of intimacy and long-term relationship with young ex-combatants. It is a beautiful and artfully told story.
On May 31st Lassana will be speaking at the film’s Premiere in San Francisco at the Delancey Street Foundation from 6-9pm.
Fellow peacebuilder and film character Varlee Sherriff, a young Liberian who barely escaped child soldier recruitment by fleeing his village at the age of eight, and California based film director Cynthia Travis will join Lassana in a Q & A.
The evening will also include a silent auction where attendees can bid upon a beautiful piece crafted by a renowned California artist, as well as photographs taken by the young men profiled in the film.
