Oct. 1 to Dec. 23, 2015; Reception for the artist -- Oct 1, 6pm to 8pm
A solo show of 2 related series of paintings continues Solomon's exploration of intensity and emotion in two dimensions. The layering of active, painterly brush strokes is increased while the scraping of surfaces is lessoned sending them even more toward the abstract. Kenneth Baker, Art Critic, stated: "Turneresque' may not be too grand a word to describe the recent work of Bay Area painter Maxine Solomon. She packs her canvases with so much aesthetic information that they generate on their own the sort of pictorial storms and atmospheres that the British master of the sublime loved to conjure. She, however, has cast off the last vestiges of figure and subject and gone for sheer immersion."
