The Danny Green Trio with Harvey Wainapel

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Award-winning jazz pianist Danny Green and local legend Harvey Wainapel team up for an intimate and captivating performance of original music and Brazilian jazz classics. Hailed as “one of the important up-and-comers on the scene today” by All About Jazz, Green is one of Southern California’s most prolific and talented jazz pianists. Using a brilliant blend of jazz, Brazilian, Latin, and classical elements, Green’s music engages listeners with evocative melodies and infectious rhythms. Joined by bassist Justin Grinnell and drummer Julien Cantelm, this virtuoso group is on tour promoting their highly acclaimed album After the Calm.

A supremely eloquent clarinetist and a saxophonist of unusual presence and power, saxophonist Wainapel is a truly ambidextrous artist who has delved deeply into the vast and variegated traditions of jazz and Brazilian music. Over the past three decades, Wainapel has performed with masters such as pianists Kenny Barron and McCoy Tyner, tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson, drummer Billy Hart, and fellow reed expert Joe Lovano, as well as touring widely with Brazilian jazz giants Airto Moreira and Flora Purim. He's also established himself as a singular presence on the Brazilian scene, spending at least a few months of every year there since 2000. JazzWeekly called Wainapel’s playing “music that restores the soul.”
