Fresh from the smashing success of their hit musical Hundred Days at Z Space Gallery in San Francisco, the married duo The Bengsons – that’s Abigail and Shaun – come to the Freight to work their particular brand of musical magic, weaving rousing vocals, frenetic rhythms, and can’t-resist choruses into an irresistible indie rock theatrical performance. Abigail Bengson possesses “not only a tremendous musical talent, but also a raw honesty and sincere righteousness,” says the New York Times. Time Out New York calls the band “quirky and radiantly emotive” and Examiner.com calls their performance “as fast and furious as a punk show but as creative and clever as an Off-Broadway play.” KQED raved about their musical, saying “the overwhelming experience of Hundred Days is one of joy. Shaina Taub has been busy lately, performing the music of Tom Waits in a production of The Tempest that played in Las Vegas and Cambridge, Massachusetts, and performing her own songs in Old Hats at A.C.T. in San Francisco with Bill Irwin and David Shiner. The New York Times calls her a “terrific vocalist,” the New Statesman calls her “a powerhouse of quiet emotion,” and Playbill says “she has the coolest, soulful, smoky sound.” Her debut album, What Otters Do, made the Best of 2011 list on WNYC, which described her music as “a playful blend of Billy Joel's piano-driven pop, Aretha's soul, and Regina Spektor's whimsy.” She is a graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, a former fellow at the MacDowell Colony, the Yaddo Colony, the Sundance Institute, and the Johnny Mercer Songwriter’s Project, and has played the Kennedy Center and Madison Square Garden.
