| Description The Asian American Musician Showcase (AAMS) is a monthly music series produced by Monkey King Records to promote awareness of local Asian American musicians. The AAMS puts a twist on the series, December 1, 2006 at the 12 Galaxies in San Francisco for AAMS #6.
Like the first installation AAMS from summer of 2006, the series will again present the diversity of musical styles, which reflect Asian and American musical influences as well as Asian American perspectives distinctive to the San Francisco Bay Area. The Bay Area's most talented musicians, bands and performers will be featured in a number of clubs throughout San Francisco. Conceived and created by San Franciscan musician, Alex Yeung, this musical showcase is like no other in the San Francisco Bay Area, presenting original Asian musical acts and performers each representing a different genre of music which includes rap, pop, electronica, hardcore/thrash, folk, punk, funk, Latin jazz, reggae, metal and a many more. From Korean folk music to Cantonese Hardcore there is something for everyone in this ongoing musical showcase. Alex Yeung and Monkey King Records have gone to extensive lengths to collect and showcase some of the most representative bands of Asian culture, influence and perspectives. Manny Cruz and the Cruzettes (8 piece Latin Jazz band) Born in Manila, Philippines Manny Cruz comes from a family of musicians. He has brought his music to Japan, the Philippines and Bangkok before settling here in San Francisco. Jennifer Justice, lead singer, has performed with Manny Cruz and the Cruzettes at the Cliff House, Soma Cultural Center, and most recently the 2006 Cherry Blossom Festival. Native Elements - Local Pinoy musicians that bring a myriad of musical influences ranging from classic R&B soul to the deepest tradition of Jamaican and English dub. Favorites of Pier 23 and featured at "Reggae on the River", San Francisco?s "Reggae in the Park", ?The Bay to Breakers Footsock, Afribbean Fest and the "Monterey Bay ReggaeFest" Festivals. Native Elements are one of the hardest working and most respected bands in the Northern California reggae scene. http://www.myspace.com/nativeelements Tensegrity Nine/Say Bok Gwai Super group - Tensegrity Nine, an Oakland/Alameda-based Electronic Pop music duo featuring Matt Payne and Peter Lim. This AAMS, T9 will collaborate with Say Bok Gwai, San Francisco's Cantocore duo who plays a combination of thrash/punk/metal/hardcore sung in Cantonese.
